A one day seminar on User Experience and Serious Games, presenting Keynote talks and projects from Interaction Design and Games Development student projects working in conjunction with staff and students from MediaCollege, Amsterdam and staff from design agency Informaat (Baarn).

Professor Marc Hassenzahl from University Siegen, Germany, presetned the opening keynote discussing his internationally acclaimed work on design for wellbeing, experience and interaction;

Kristina Andersen from KTH Royal Institute of Technology, Sweden presented the afternoon keynote investigating how to design technology for people in a post-digital world

Darya Krasilnikov, Portfolio Manager at ACE VentureLab talked about the education, research and incubation function of the Amsterdam based technology, research and innovation centre.

Ticket costs?

The seminar is open to all, staff, students and public. Tickets are free, on a first come first serverd basis. Tickets are available until the day of the seminar but are limited in number. Book your FREE ticket now to avoid disappointment.

Getting there?

By train

Four times an hour a train leaves from Amsterdam Central station or Almere/Zwolle station to station Amsterdam Science Park.

By subway

By tram

By Bus

At Amsterdam Amstel station and Muiderpoort station an OV-bike (public transport bike) can be rented. It takes about 15 minutes to bike to Amsterdam Science Park from both stations. A large part of Amsterdam, Diemen and Duivendrecht lies within a 7-kilometre radius (20-30 minutes by bike) from Amsterdam Science Park.

To plan your journey by bike, travel to the website of Routecraft for the best directions to Amsterdam Science Park. Note: use Kruislaan 300 instead of Science Park at the adress field! You can plan your route also by using Google Maps.

By Car

Amsterdam Science Park is accessible by car. You can park at the civic amenity and plan your route to us by using Google Maps.

  • Ring road Amsterdam (A10)
  • Exit 'Watergraafsmeer/s113'
  • Follow signs 'Science Park'
  • On middenweg at Kruislaan turn right
  • Follow road through train tunnel
  • You have arrived at Amsterdam Science Park

The UvA canteen and coffee bar will be open to all visitors. Science park also has a small number of cafes and Cafe Restaurant Polder is a two minute walk from the venue.

What's on, on the day?

Students from the University of Amsterdam Information Studies Master program, Human Centred Multimedia and Games Studies tracks, will be presenting projects from the Interaction Design and Games Development courses.

"Information studies at UvA tackles systemic problems first rather than individual pieces of technology within that system: it focuses on understanding information problems from the perspective of the people involved, and then applying technologies as needed."

The Games Projects have been co-developed with art, design, animation and games development students from MediaCollege, Amsterdam. .
"Mediacollege Amsterdam is a vocational school. We educate students so that they can start at an executive level in the creative industry. During their education, they’re involved in projects working in multidisciplinary teams. Students of Ma will be the designers, game artists, web & gamedevelopers of the future."

These prototype projects are developed in conjunction with real-world stakeholders and academic subject specialists. The projects range from serious games supporting older people with dementia, understanding autism, learning about ancient Egypt, realtime tracking of African wildlife to assisting student teachers learning teaching techniques.

On the day teams will have formal presentations plus hands-on sessions to demonstrate prototypes and answer further questions.
